What Counts Toward the $25?

Your cart starts with the sale prices of your items. Sale prices already include any advertised discounts, so those savings are automatically reflected.

When Does the $5 Off $25 Apply?

The register checks your subtotal after any Dollar General store discounts or Instant Savings promotions have been applied.

If your subtotal is still $25.00 or more, your $5 Off $25 coupon will apply.

Why Didn't My $5 Off $25 Work?

If your subtotal drops below $25 before the register checks your cart, the coupon won't apply.

Dollar General generally applies discounts in this order:

  1. Sale prices
  2. Instant Savings promotions
  3. Dollar General store coupons and digital store discounts
  4. $5 Off $25 qualification is checked
  5. The $5 Off $25 coupon is applied
  6. Manufacturer coupons are deducted last

Using this builder

Regular price, sale price, and offers

The gap between the two prices is your offers. Sale price is what rings up, so it drives the $25 and your total. Leave the regular price blank on anything that isn't on sale — it only widens the savings number.

Sharing a deal

Share this deal builds a link that carries the whole cart — items, prices, coupons, promo and all. Whoever opens it lands on the scenario already filled in and can swap in their own store's prices. On a phone it opens your usual share sheet; everywhere else it copies the link. Opening someone else's link never overwrites your own saved cart. Copy text is the plain-text version for captions and comments.

Digital vs. paper manufacturer coupons

Each coupon box carries its own rule, marked right on the field. Once means it rings a single time no matter how many you buy — that's how digital coupons work, both DG store and manufacturer. Each means one per item, which is how paper coupons work. You can't put two manufacturer coupons on the same item, so when you have a digital and a paper on a single item, only the digital counts.

Where the $5 Off $25 goes

Nowhere — you never enter it as an item coupon. Set it once at the top of the page under This week's coupon and the builder applies it when your cart qualifies. Typing it into a DG store coupon box would double-count it and knock you under the threshold at the same time.

Instant Savings promos

Open Instant Savings promo at the top of the page, enter the spend and get amounts, then tick In promo on each participating item. The gold meter tracks that threshold on its own, since it's measured on those items alone.

Excluded items

Gift cards, prepaid phone cards, tobacco, alcohol, postage stamps, and in some states dairy don't count toward the $25. Keep them out of a scenario you're building around the coupon and buy them separately.

No overage

A coupon worth more than the item adjusts down to the price and stops there. Manufacturer coupons adjust down against what's left after the store coupon, so a $1.50 item with a $1.00 DG coupon leaves only $0.50 for a manufacturer coupon to take.
